Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports in the first 8 months of 2023 reached more than 33 billion USD

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in the eight months of 2023, the total export and import turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is estimated to reach 59.69 billion USD; Of which, exports were 33.21 billion USD, imports were 26.48 billion USD, and trade surplus was 6.72 billion USD.

Regarding exports, exports in August were estimated at 4.36 billion USD, down 6.5% over the same period last year; Of which, agricultural products group reached 2.16 billion USD, an increase of 11.5%; livestock 50 million USD, up 24%; seafood 750 million USD, down 24%; forest products 1.19 billion USD, down 21.5%; production input 207 million USD, up 13.3%. In the first eight months of the year, because the export value of many main export products decreased compared to the same period last year, the total export turnover was estimated at 33.21 billion USD, down 9.5%. Of which, the seafood group reached 5.68 billion USD, down 25.4%; forest products 8.95 billion USD, down 25.1%; production input 1.32 billion USD, down 21.9%. Some product groups have increased export value such as: Agricultural products 16.9 billion USD, an increase of 11.5% (contributed by the export value of vegetables and fruits 3.45 billion USD, an increase of 57.5%; rice 3 .17 billion USD, up 36.1%; cashews 2.23 billion USD, up 8.9%; coffee 2.94 billion USD, up 2.3%); livestock products 325 million USD, an increase of 26.1%. Regarding markets, in the first 8 months of 2023, China, the US and Japan continue to remain the three largest export markets of our country’s agricultural, forestry and fishery products. Export value to China accounted for 21.9%, an increase of 9.8%; America accounted for 20.6%, down 27.4%; and Japan accounted for 7.6%, down 10.6%.

According to statistics of the first 8 months of 2022 from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover is estimated at 4.4 billion USD (up 32% over the same period last year). Of which, main agricultural products are over 1.8 billion USD, main forestry products are over 1.4 billion USD, aquatic products are 893.8 million USD and livestock are 41.6 million USD. Overall for 8 months, export turnover is estimated at nearly 36.3 billion USD (up 13.1% over the same period last year) with exports of main agricultural products nearly 15 billion USD. There are 7 products/product groups with an export value of over 2 billion USD including coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashews, shrimp, and wood products. Many products increased compared to the same period last year, such as pangasius increased by 82%, coffee increased by 40%, shrimp increased by 22% and fertilizer increased by 163%. However, there are also many items that decreased over the same period, such as vegetables and fruits down 13.9%, cashew nuts down 10%, livestock products down 12.3% and wood products down 3.4%. The largest export market is the US, reaching nearly 9.6 billion USD (accounting for 26.4% market share). Ranked second is China, about 6.5 billion USD (accounting for 17.8% market share). Then there’s Japan and Korea. In the past year, we have coordinated to strengthen online promotion and promotion of products that have been opened and officially exported to major markets such as China, the US, the EU, and Russia and effectively exploited them. potential markets Japan – Korea, Australia – New Zealand, Middle East and ASEAN.

At the same time, increasing valuable and quality export industries such as key fresh fruits: mango, dragon fruit, passion fruit, lychee, and longan have been exported to many countries; proactively seek and expand markets for livestock products,… The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in the last months of 2022, negotiations to open the market for longan fruit exported to Japan will be completed. Besides, we also proactively prepare good technical documents and actively negotiate to open the market for officially exported agricultural products to major markets such as China (avocado, grapefruit, bird’s nest,…), Japan.
